The executive producer of the hit series reveals the interesting background in an interview.
Evan Petersone of the most beloved actors of the modern day, should have been one of the faces of season 2 of The White Lotus, the award-winning HBO anthology series about the psychosocial dysfunctions of guests and employees of a resort chain. The executive producer revealed it David Bernardadding what role the actor was approached for and why nothing ultimately came of it.
The White Lotus 2: Evan Peters had to be there
Returning from the extremely positive experiences of American Horror Story e Omicidio a EasttownPeters was initially chosen by the producers of The White Lotus for the role of Ethan in season 2. However, conflicting schedules (and divine intervention) led to Will Sharpe to assume the role in his place, alongside Aubrey Plaza. “That was the last part we gave in the season, and it was originally supposed to be from Evan Peters, but for some reason – planning or timing – it just didn’t work out,” Bernad told Deadline.
“We were trying to figure out who to cast that part, and it didn’t seem easy,” he continued. While in Rome auditioning for Italian actors, “I was jet-lagged at 4 in the morning and ran into Will Sharpe in Giri/Hajj, which is a brilliant British show. I had never seen him before and he was just full of talent. I looked at his other work and realized he was kind of a chameleon.”

In season 2 of The White LotusSharpe’s Ethan was introduced to us as a young tech prodigy, who became rich after selling his company, who vacations in Sicily with his wife Harper (Plaza), his friend and former college roommate Cameron (Theo James) and his wife Daphne (Meghann Fahy). Ethan and Harper have obvious communication problems and an unrewarding sex life, and the situation becomes more complicated when he begins to suspect that his wife has cheated on him with Cameron.
Any conflicting schedules or schedules that prevented Peters from playing the role Sharpe eventually had to do with Dahmerfirst season of the Netflix anthology crime drama Monster, in which the actor played Milwaukee serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. All in all, he did equally well. Not only has the series established itself as one of the most watched ever on the platform, his portrayal earned him the Golden Globe, the first of his career.
