The crime drama starring Gaia Girace, Valentina Bellè and Barbara Chichiarelli will debut on Disney+ on April 5th.
The first series winner of the first Berlinale Series Award she is Italian. The Good Mothersnew crime drama from the streaming service Disney+ arriving April 5, premiered at the 73rd edition of the Berlin International Film Festivalwas awarded the prestigious accolade for the way it “captured us with its layered characters carefully treated and allowed to evolve before our eyes.”
It is the motivation of the jury drilled by the former president of Yes Studios Danna Sternfrom the star of Moonlight Andre Holland and by the Danish screenwriter Puts Heenoadding: “The creators of the series were meticulous in recreating an authentic and detailed world, presented by an all-star cast, with performances that made our hearts flutter. The cinematography, production design and beautiful locations contributed to the ultra -realistic of the series, as it should be considering that it is based on true events”. The Good Mothers beat the Romanian thriller Spy/Masterthe Chinese drama Why Try to Change Me Nowthe Australian miniseries Bad Behaviourthe Indian thriller Coating (also known by its international title Roar), the Danish drama Agent and Norwegian comedy The architect (The Architect), which received a special mention.
The plot and the cast of The Good Mothers
Written by the BAFTA nominee Stephen Butchard (Baghdad Central) based on journalist Alex Perry’s bestseller of the same name, The Good Mothers is a choral and multifaceted work that tells the true story of three women, who grew up within the fiercest and richest clans of the ‘Ndrangheta, who decide to collaborate with a courageous magistrate who works to destroy the organization from within. These women will have to fight against their own families for the right to survive and to build a new future for themselves and their children.
The cast of the series includes Gaia Girace (The brilliant friend), Valentina Belle (Catch-22, The doctors) e Simona Distefano (The traitor) in the role of the three women – Denise Cosco, Giuseppina Pesce and Concetta Cacciola. Barbara Chichiarelli (Suburra: The series, Tales) plays PM Anna Colace, who has just arrived in Calabria. They add to them Micaela Ramazzotti (Crazy joy) e Francis Colella (ZeroZeroZero), faces of Lea Garofalo and the boss Carlo Cosco, Denise’s parents, while Andrew Dodero (Block 181) is Carmine Venturino, Cosco’s young henchman.
