For five seasons the face of John Dutton, according to rumors the actor would have reduced his commitments in the series to the point of making it impossible to continue.
Were they really all fanciful reconstructions of the press? The drama (or presumed drama) that would be taking place behind the scenes of Yellowstone threatens to surpass the wonderful one we usually see on TV as rumors of an imminent conclusion to the hit series continue to run after differences with the protagonist Kevin Costner, who would have drastically reduced his availability for filming the second part of season 5 to devote himself to other projects. Rumors now denied by the actor’s rep.
Yellowstone closes because of Kevin Costner?
“The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week in the second half of season five of Yellowstone are completely false,” said a Puck News Marty Singer, the actor’s attorney. “It’s ridiculous – and no credit should be given to anyone who says otherwise. As everyone who knows Kevin knows, he cares deeply about the show and has always gone above and beyond to ensure its success.”
At the beginning of the month, Deadline had revealed that the co-creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridanthe Paramount Network and the Paramount Global study are moving to conclude Yellowstone in its current form, due to the difficulties of reconciling the needs and times of production with Costner’s agenda, especially in the last period. He also said that a potential expansion of the franchise is being planned with a new series – again centered on the Dutton family – of which the Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) would be in talks for the lead role.

In response to that report, Paramount Network cryptically stated, “We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is an important part of Yellowstone and we hope it will be like this for a long time to come. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we continue to work on expansions of the incredible world she built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent that we would love to collaborate with.”
Recall that the first part of season 5 of Yellowstone will debut in Italy, exclusively on Sky and streaming only on NOW, on March 1st. The eight episodes that have already aired in the United States will be followed by six more this summer.
