Raymond Cruz talks meeting fans of Breaking Bad
In Breaking Bad and in the spin-off Better Call Saul, Raymond Cruz interpreta Tuco Salamancaviolent and unpredictable man, a member of the cartel who helps his family in drug trafficking operations.
His path crosses with that of Walter White and that of Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) but ends tragically. What would have happened if he hadn’t been killed in the fight with Hank? This “what if” is among the 5 things that could have changed the story of Breaking Bad.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Raymond Cruz spoke about how her character continues to have a big impact on viewers despite Breaking Bad has been closed since 2013.
Cruz said many fans recognize and interact with him; however, the actor noticed that fans are often nervous in his presence, precisely because he played Tuco.
Here are his words:
“After all this time the interaction with the fans is insane, because the fans love the show, they know all the words. They know the premise, the situations, they love the character. They often tremble when they approach me. They interact with me, but when I shake their hands they feel sweaty and nervous because (they think about) Tuco – it’s a strange thing, isn’t it? I’m separate from what I do on screen, but when my fans see me in person, they think I’m Tuco Salamanca. It’s a little weird, but it’s cool, I love that the fans are so connected to the character and the show, and they love the show.”
The presence of Tuco Salamanca in Breaking Bad it wasn’t long but the impact on viewers was considerable. Many fans have hoped to be able to see and know more about Tuco. Cruz himself has confirmed in the past that he wants to see the Salamanca family told in some projects.
The creator Vince Gilligan – who told how he came up with the idea to create the series – has revealed in the past that he does not want to continue exploring this universe, so it seems impossible to see a TV series about the Salamancas.
