The Crownthe series on the history of the English monarchy, is nearing its conclusion. After the fifth season, which arrived on Netflix last November, sparked several controversies, the filming of the final season is currently underway. While Imelda Staunton e Olivia Colman were extraordinary in interpreting Queen Elizabeth II, the first interpreter who tackled this role remains unforgettable. Before the recast of the third season it was the talented Claire Foy who stole our hearts, giving us back a very interesting portrait of the sovereign of England. It was beside her Matt Smith to play Prince Philip, which has given us several iconic quotes over the course of the first two seasons. While Claire Foy was the absolute protagonist of the series, the actress she was being paid much less than Matt Smith.
Claire Foy told what her reaction was when she found out that her colleague in The Crown he was being paid more than she was.
Claire Foy gave a long interview to The Guardian to promote the Oscar-nominated film in which he stars alongside actresses such as Frances McDormand, Jessie Buckley e Rooney Mara, Women Talking. At one point she spoke about the unfortunate situation that overwhelmed her in 2018 when an executive at Left Bank Pictures, the production company behind the show, revealed that Matt Smith was paid more than Claire Foy, although the latter was the protagonist of the series. At the time the declaration unleashed quite a fuss and the actress preferred not to expose herself too much. Now Claire Foy has revealed that, prior to the producers’ statement, she was unaware that she was paid less than her colleague and that I was very upset by this discovery:
“I wasn’t shocked. I was very upset. I wasn’t crying upset. I was very angry and I don’t think I expressed my anger.”
Claire Foy she recalled with some regret that she ended up at the center of a situation bigger than her, after that statement. You said that at one point you were approached by some characters who wanted to ask you to expose yourself on the matter. The actress preferred not to throw fuel on the fire and at the same time avoid defending the production company The Crown, because he didn’t want this matter to overshadow all the effort he put into the series. Naturally, she preferred not to say who the people who pressured her were why he behaved a certain way. Here are his words:
“I truly love my industry and think it is made up of many honorable, incredibly talented, brilliant, inventive, amazing people. But sometimes you see something, you hear something, you notice something, or something happens to you and you’re just like, ‘Oh God, what am I doing? Why am I doing this? Should I be a part of it?’ I found it really heartbreaking. (…) Suddenly I was being asked all these questions and was encouraged by some people involved to speak up for them. (…) I just think that everyone wanted me to act a certain way, in response to that. And I didn’t. In what certain way? She adopts a casual tone. He says, ‘Okay! It’s absolutely fine what happened!’ This is what I think they wanted me to say. (…) if anything, non I wanted my experience with the series and what we did all were blacked out.“
