The post-apocalyptic series with Pedro Pascal is broadcast on Sky and streamed on NOW every Monday. Here’s a sneak peek from Craig Mazin.
Anyone who has played the video game will know that the tale of The Last of Us, the HBO series that has already become a worldwide hit, will still cause many more tears. However, the last episode that aired, Long, Long Time, proved with the story of Bill and Frank that even they may not be so ready for what awaits us in the near future. In an interview with TVLinewhen asked if we will ever see moments from Joel’s life during the 20 years between the outbreak of the epidemic and the point where we find him at the beginning of the story, in the same way we did with Bill and Frank, the co-creator Craig Mazin first he answered no and then he said that something potentially much more powerful is around the corner.
The Last of Us: What’s Coming to Joel?
“I don’t think we’re going to go back as much as we did in that case, but Joel’s past is what shapes his future,” Mazin said. “There’s one particular moment I’m thinking about that hits me very hard.” In the first two episodes, both Joel (played by Peter Pascal) and Tess (Anna Torv) referred to the not at all pleasant experiences that he is carrying around. Something he certainly can’t keep in the back of his mind. This is demonstrated by that moment during the premiere when, while punching the face of a FEDRA officer, Joel flashed back to the night his daughter Sarah was killed. He therefore has baggage and, according to Mazin, this will lead to highly emotional moments that we have not yet seen.
The gist behind what Mazin anticipated, he added, is that “the portrayal of Joel that Pedro Pascal is doing has so much soul and humanity, and vulnerability, especially when Joel is alone. He’s a tough guy with everyone, but when he’s alone , that’s when you see his whole soul.”
We remember that The Last of Us is aired exclusively on Sky Atlantic and streamed only on NOW, simultaneously with the United States, every Monday with a new episode. For the first season (the series was recently renewed for a second) nine were produced.
