Yesterday James Gunn presented some of the projects of the first phase of the DCU including the long-awaited Superman film that will mark the beginning of a new cycle.

It will hit theaters on July 11, 2025 Superman: Legacy, this is the official title of the new film about the man of steel. At the moment there are no details on the actor who will have the honor of playing him, but we know that the film will be written by James Gunnwho has always been a huge fan of Superman.
The announcement came during yesterday’s presentations of the first chapter of the new phase of the DCU, entitled Gods & Monsters. Superman: Legacy will be the first film of this new cycle at DC and fans’ anticipation is skyrocketing. It will not be an origin story, as confirmed by Peter Safran who explains:
“It’s not an origin story. The story revolves around Superman’s struggles balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice, and the American way. He’s kindness in a world that thinks about kindness as old-fashioned”.

As a younger iteration of the Man of Steel, Henry Cavill will no longer be a part of the DC Universe, as confirmed in the past. On the issue, long debated by fans, James Gunn wanted to comment this way: “For me, for this story, he’s not Henry. I like Henry: he’s a great guy. I think he’s been treated badly by a lot of people, including the former top management of this company. But this Superman is not Henry for various reasons”.
