How old is Zuleyha in Amara Land
How old is Zuleyha? The female protagonist of Bitter land – the Turkish soap entitled Once Upon a Time Cukurova broadcast starting from 2022 by Canale 5 – is Züleyha Altun Yaman, a 25-year-old woman who lives in Istanbul in Turkey in the seventies.
Since the series is set in that decade, we can assume that Züleyha was born between 1955 and 1960 approximately. Returning to the character played by the actress Hilal Altinbilek, Züleyha works as a clerk in a tailor’s shop in the capital and is a kind-hearted woman who is deeply in love with her boyfriend Yılmaz Akkaya (played by Uğur Güneş), a man who works as an engine mechanic. At the beginning of the story of Terra Amara, in fact, Züleyha still lives with Veli Erdönmez (Mustafa Açılan), her half-brother. The latter is a man who has developed a pathological addiction to gambling to the point of being up to his neck in debt.
To repay her creditors, Veli sells her half-sister Züleyha for money; to protect her lover from the man who was sexually abusing her, Yılmaz kills Züleyha’s assailant. However, the murder forces Züleyha and Yılmaz to leave Istanbul in a hurry to avoid capture and the inevitable arrest. Here the two lovers end up in Çukurova, in the rural province of Adana.

Posing as brothers – and not boyfriends -, Züleyha and Yılmaz manage to persuade the farmer Hunkar Yaman (played by Vahide Perçin) to host and employ them at his farm, the same one where he also works Iron (played by Murat Ünalmış) – Hünkar’s son – and Azize “Haminne” Saraçoğlu (Serpil Tamur plays him) – Hünkar’s mother and Demir’s grandmother. For the latter it is love at first sight with Züleyha; the woman – in order to save Yılmaz from prison – agrees to marry Demir.
