Grey’s Anatomy, on the air for 20 years, has accustomed us to a thousand revolutions in the cast: memorable farewells, sudden departures and unexpected returns. Therefore, it would not surprise us to find, at some point, Justin Chambersthe interpreter of Dr Alex Karev who left the series more than three years ago. On Instagram Justin Chambers shared a very particular photo that made many believe that his return to Grey’s Anatomy was imminent. The actor posted an image of a cappuccino glass topped with a branded cup cover featuring a recent image of Grey’s Anatomy in which his former co-stars are seen Chandra Wilson, Ellen Pompeo e James Pickens Jr. “A cup of Grey’s,” Chambers wrote in the photo caption. Of course, in a few hours there have been many comments from fans who have interpreted this post as an indirect announcement.

However the well-informed American newspaper TVLinequoting a source very close to the production of the ABC medical drama, assures that Justin Chambers and his Karev are not expected to return to the Gray Sloan lanes. So it was just a lot of ado about nothing. It must be said, however, that there has been neither a confirmation nor a denial on the part of the actor. Chambers limited himself to not responding to the many comments, effectively fueling this aura of mystery that was created around his post.
Why had Justin Chambers left the series?
It has now been more than three years since Justin Chambers left in November 2019 Grey’s Anatomy almost suddenly and amid a thousand controversies. The last episode he was in aired without viewers knowing it was his last appearance on the series until his exit was officially announced two months later. Only in March 2020 was his farewell episode aired to which the actor contributed only with the voiceover, not appearing in person. Then we learned that Alex Karev had left his wife Jo to get back together with his ex Izzie (Katherine Heigl) that in the meantime she had had two children conceived with him when she froze her eggs.
At the time, Chambers said he was leaving the long-running series to redefine his acting roles and career choices. But, as disclosed by Page Six, behind his decision there would have been personal problems of depression and stress. In any case, after the long experience in Grey’s Anatomy, the actor hasn’t accepted (or found) many job offers; we only saw him play a small role in the Paramount+ miniseries The Offerfocused on making of of The Godfather.
