During the third episode entitled “Double revenge”, Salvatore known as Salvo – Edoardo’s cousin – dies following a robbery gone bad. The young man surprises an elegant man who was showing off a nice watch, takes him from behind and tries to steal his watch. When – leaving the crime scene – Salvo turns his back on the man, the latter pulls a pistol from his jacket and shoots him in the back, leaving him dying on the ground.
Edoardo remembers him leading a prayer in the canteen of the IPM. At the beginning of the third season Carmela had instructed Salvo, Edoardo’s cousin, to let three mavericks enter the Ipm with the promise of making them trusted soldiers of her husband and fully entering the Ricci clan.

“Can you smell the sea?” Gaetano says to Mimmo, raising his gun in surrender and remembering how beautiful it was – for him – to go to the beach as a child. Here, tragically, Gaetano says: “You are right, there is always a way out. Hello Mimmo.” but the latter is faster than him and shoots him in the chest, fatally hitting him. Mimmo runs towards Gaetano, who has fallen to the ground and is bleeding to death. “You have to tell my father that his son is not a murdererhe says to Mimmo. In fact, Gaetano had not inserted bullets in his gun and puts them in Mimmo’s hands.

In the fifth episode “Love does not exist” Gaetano’s parents – a respectable family, which has no connection with organized crime – arrive at the IPM with the coffin to allow the young prisoners and the institution’s staff to bid their farewell to the controversial – but also beloved – character . Gaetano’s father and mother urge their son’s former fellow prisoners not to follow his example and to ensure that his death does not happen in vain: “Love is the only thing that matters” reiterates the mother.
Gaetano is a member of the Ricci clan, but after Ciro’s death he realizes he has to change his ways. Carmine shares the desire to leave the life of the clan behind. Perhaps too late, says the father, but at least he took that important step. There are those – like Edoardo – who continue to torment him by calling him a villain because he wanted to deny his criminal past. Around the hearse, the boys and girls sing “’O Mar For” in honor of the ex-con who died too young.
Viola dies in Mare Fuori 3
A tragic epilogue awaits Viola, the character played by Serena De Ferrari. At the end of the sixth episode entitled “The age of innocence”, Viola takes possession of Futura – Carmine’s daughter – and climbs up to the roof of one of the IPM buildings. Here she leans over the ledge, holding the blanket that wraps little Futura with one hand: Viola threatens to let go and – in doing so – throw the little girl from the top of the building onto the asphalt. Paola and the others try to make Viola think, appealing to her common sense and trying to show her that there is another life beyond revenge.
Paola seems to have managed to reason with Viola, who moves away from the ledge. The screams of the boys – including the desperate Carmine himself – who observe the story from below bring Viola back to reality and seem to push her to go all the way with that cheeky gesture. Rosa, with a lightning bolt, saves the little Futura by snatching her from Viola’s grip. The latter throws himself from the ledge but is saved by Paola, who holds her in her arms and gets help to hoist her. When everything seems to be turning for the better, Viola gives Paola a kiss on the lips and lets herself fall on her back.

The image that closes the episode is Viola’s face, swollen and surrounded by an ever-growing bloodstain that covers the entire asphalt. It is not clear whether Viola will be able to save herself, even if everything would seem to suggest that Viola is dead. In what we can assume are the final moments of her life, Viola sees Martina while Rosa reassures Carmine: Futura is fine and safe.
