The last few weeks have been particularly turbulent for James Gunn and the new arrangement of the DC Studios. Sitting comfortably on top, the new co-president of the DC universe has shown that he has pretty clear ideas about the future of his universe of superheroes. Under his leadership, important changes have already been made, such as the departure of Henry Cavill who will not reprise the role of Superman in the sequel of The man of Steel. A decision that has caused perplexity and discontent among fans. Some time after the official announcement, James Gunn clarified his position regarding the departure of Henry Cavill.
James Gunn: ‘Henry Cavill wasn’t fired, rather never hired’
James Gunn has finally shown DC Universe fans what his plans are for the near future. Place of honor goes to Clark Kent, who will return to the cinema but with the features of another. Henry CavillIn fact, he hasn’t been confirmed to play Superman in upcoming DC projects. But, in his defense, James Gunn preferred to clarify that Henry Cavill he was never fired. Rather he was not hired for the part. As reported by ScreenRantaccording to James Gunn e Peter Safran an official deal to bring Henry Cavill back to the DC Universe to play Superman once again was never signed. As well as also Ben Affleck was cut out of the DCU’s future.
All I can say now is that Henry and Ben are not part of this universe. It’s also important to say that Henry Cavill hasn’t been fired. He hasn’t been hired to be Superman in the next film. There was never a deal for another film.
It therefore seems that Henry Cavill has never officially signed on to return to play Superman. The character of him, after Justice Leaguereappeared in a cameo by Black Adam testing the waters for Man of Steel 2 never happened. Shortly after, in fact, James Gunn and Peter Safran made it note his creative revolution by cutting Henry Cavill straight from the future DC to insert a new project that now finally has a title: Superman: Legacy will start the phase 1 of DC Universe and should arrive in theaters in 2025. James Gunn is currently still writing the screenplay for the film and it is not clear whether he will also appear as director. Just as no one has been chosen yet who will play the new Clark Kent.
