Sea Outside 3: interview with Carmine Recano, Carolina Crescentini, Lucrezia Guidone, Cristiana Farina and Ivan Silvestrini
From 1 February 2023 on RaiPlay and from 15 February 2023 on Rai 2 it’s going to happen Sea Outside 3. In this interview with Carmine Recano, Carolina Crescentini, Lucrezia Guidone, Cristiana Farina and Ivan Silvestrini, we compare ourselves with the three actors, the creator and the director. This cycle of episodes sees the protagonists – the IPM kids – grown up. Many of them have to choose how to face the challenge of adulthood. Consequently their figures, those of the “grown-ups”, become – perhaps – even more emblematic for them.

Massimo Esposito and the struggle between heart and mind: “I think the heart will win!”
Massimo it’s always been empathetic towards the boys, but in front of the recall from the Ministry he cannot fail to recognize the existence of a limit. Will the heart or the mind win for Esposito this season? Thinking about the developments in Sea Outside 3in this interview Carmine Recano – interpreted by Massimo Esposito – acknowledges that it is not a simple matter. “All the ties that we tell, however, are based on this shared experience, which is prison. Therefore, they are ties that will remain over time even when each of us, let’s say, the boys above all, have decided to change.”
IS Christian Farina – creator of the series – to bring it back to the point. “Will the heart or the mind win? Will the heart or the brain win? She is joking: “The heart, the heart: unfortunately there is not much brain!”. Among the laughter, colleagues comment on the twist with a slip of the tongue. “Carmine has more heart than brain, come on! I meant Massimo… Lapsus!”

Carmine Recano also agrees. “I think the heart will win more!”
Indeed, “We’ve always played and built character on this one fatherly sense”continues the actor. Christian Farina continues: “He is a dad and, consequently – let’s say – he has a very warm and welcoming approach. It’s more mom – in some respects that Pope – while she (Paola VinciEd) looks more like father and then turns into a mother.” It is actually a curious aspect: Massimo Esposito and Paola Vinci could have initially “exchanged” roles.
“The third season is the season of love – precisely – of growth and awareness, but also of the discovery of this love, which can call into question and overturn anything for which each character will collide with this feeling and sometimes it will help him grow. Other times, however, she’ll get him into trouble.” With these words Cristiana Farina gives an overview of the season.
Paola Vinci “she ‘amputated’ her feelings” in the past and continue to do so

In the first episode Paola stands aside against Massimobecause – quoting her – “It doesn’t matter what I feel”. He makes an ethically correct gesture, but he’s also underneath the fear of facing his feelings? Thinking about Sea Outin this interviewCarolina Crescentinireflects on the behavior of his character. “Paola on several occasions, even in the past, has ‘amputated’ her feelings – let’s put it this way”: The actress uses a strong image, especially in light of the fact that his character also physically limps. Then he adds that “in this situation, she is in love with Massimo: it is clear, however Massimo is a married man. I remind you of this thing, which means a whole series of things in chain!”. It’s true, by getting involved in love storylines, we risk forgetting these “small” details. Consequently “he’s trying to protect himself a bit, protect himself too and protect the environment in which he works. It’s all delicate. So even when he wants to go towards the most extreme instinct he can’t do it. It must be kept”concludes the actress.
Sofia “He is a character who hides wounds”
Sophia is one new entry of the third season of Mare Fuori 3. It’s very tough when you arrive at IPM, but what’s behind this judgmental mask? The first reaction of its interpreter, Lucrezia Guidone is a “look of terror” for “the ‘spoiler’ question”. She then adds that “certainly (Sofia) is a character who – behind this hardness – hides wounds, a bit as often happens in life. So this hardening surely connects to a fear, it connects to a past pain which – let’s say – meanders and will bring – in short – will develop during the series.” We just have to find out!
Cristiana Farina tells how the “ability to love” is the leitmotif of Sea Outside 3
The boys of Sea Out they are full of anger and it is the duty of adults to listen to them: after two seasons, for this third one, how did you listen to the characters to tell them? These are the words ofcreator, screenwriter and head writer Cristiana Farina. “In both adults and adolescents, we have explored the capacity for love: the love they have received and the love they are able to replicate.” Indeed, “this is a feeling – in fact – that can be salvificbut it can also be very dangerous, because if you are not able to manage it it can also lead toself destruction in some respects, especially when you are particularly young, that it seems that – precisely – that love is unique, infinite and forever.” The consideration does not apply only to young people but also to young people. “As for adults it will also lead them to confront gods even professional limits or, in any case, it will lead them to explore, to fight in an arena whose rules they don’t know well, for which they too will pay the consequences.
“With this season, we will have to say ‘goodbye’ to some characters that we are very fond of”word of the director Ivan Silvestrini
Director Ivan Silvestrini he was moved as he turned Sea Outside 3in this interview we explain to tell us his point of view. “I love to tell heartbreaking stories, heartbreaking in a good way, which do not leave us indifferent, which force us to move and – I must say – this season I had many opportunities. In almost every episode there is at least one moment in which I am deeply moved and in some moments it is truly an almost unbearable emotion in this season.”

Then comes the explosive statement: “With this season, we will have to say ‘goodbye’ to some characters we are very fond of and, often, the sequences involving these bitter goodbyes I am among the most moving things I’ve ever directed. So, I hope this emotion gets through to the audience. If I’ve done that, I’ve done a good job.”
We have no doubts!
