The TV series and films that will shape the new DC Universe have finally been revealed. The co-presidents and CEOs of DC Studios James Gunn e Peter Safran appeared a few hours ago in a long video shared on social networks, announcing what is called the Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters (a sort of Phase of Marvel), with all the titles that will be part of it, and explaining that the idea is to “take our diamond characters – Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman – and use them to support other characters that people don’t know”, “make those lesser-known properties become the diamond properties of tomorrow”.

From now on, cinema and TV will walk together as has rarely been the case in the past. Meanwhile, the second spin-off of The Suicide Squad: Suicide Missionwhich will be added to Peacemaker. Waller will focus on the character of Amanda Waller, the leader of ARGUS, played as always by the Oscar winner Viola Davisand it will also involve the characters Peacemaker (therefore it is a spin-off of the latter rather than of the film). The script is in the hands of Crystal Henrywho recently wrote an episode of Watchmene di Jeremy Carverthe creator of the recently canceled Doom Patrol.
Described as the True Detective from DC Universe, Lanterns is the series on the Green Lantern characters that has been talked about for some time and which in the last period had taken some steps back to be rewritten. Safran explained that it will be “a huge event series” and that it will follow members of the intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps John Stewart and Hal Jordan as they unravel a dark mystery. “It will play a major role in the bigger story we’re telling across film and TV,” he added.

One of DC’s fan favorite characters, Booster Gold will have a series of its own. This will introduce him as a loser from the future who uses the technology of that era to return to the present and pretend to be a superhero. Gunn described it as “The imposter syndrome applied to a superhero.” It adds Paradise Lost, series set in Themyscira, the island nation that is the home of the Amazons and the birthplace of Wonder Woman. Space also for animation with Creature Commandos, a seven-episode series in which Amanda Waller creates a secret team of monstrous prisoners. “It will be a way to tell gigantic stories without spending $50 million an episode,” said Gunn, who wrote all the episodes. The team includes a werewolf, a vampire, Frankenstein’s monster and a gorgon. Gunn also mentioned that Suicide Squad’s Weasel will be in the series.
The other DC series airing and coming soon
From previous reports we know that the future of the DC Universe on TV will not be limited to this. The third season of is imminent Superman & Loiswhich Gunn and Safran said has “a season or two more” in the tank (it’s unclear if the third is one of them), and will also debut shortly Gotham Knightsa series that (literally) kills the Dark Knight. Peacemaker has been renewed for a second season, but Gunn doesn’t have time to deal with that right now as he’s hard at work on the film Superman: Legacywhich is also why its characters will hang out in Waller. Nothing is known yet about the fate of Pennyworthwhose third season ended last November, while the animated series Harley Quinn will continue with a 44-minute Valentine’s Day special and a fourth season. Nothing to do, however, for season 5 of Young Justice.
