The Last of Us, the story of Bill and Frank
What are the differences between the video game and the story of Bill e Frank in The Last of Us ? The highly anticipated series HBO made its debut exclusively on Sky and streamed only on NOW, from January 16, 2023, absolutely simultaneously with the airing in the United States. The show with protagonist Peter Pascal e Bella Ramsey will accompany us for nine weeks.

The showrunners of the series Neil Druckman e Craig Mazin have made some changes to the series, thus leading to differences from the game of The Last of Us. For starters they changed the way the virus is spread Cordycepsintroduced new characters and added playing time to others.
The third installment of the series introduces two much-loved characters to gamers The Last of Us. Let’s talk about Bill e Frank which in the series are told differently than in the original product, probably in one of the best written serial products of recent years. It is not the first time that the adaptation HBO made changes on the events, such as the death of Tess in the second episode. Now, with respect to the opera Naughty Dog the story of Bill e Frank undergoes an important change in staging, adapting the work to the serial world.
The third episode of The Last of Us
In the game Frank runs away to find a better place to live and is later found by Joel, Ellie e Bill, hanged after committing suicide because he was infected. In the series Frank falls ill, but has not been infected by Cordyceps.

In the third episode we are told everything from the very beginning of the story of Bill e Frank. From their meeting, the years spent together loving each other and trying to recreate a semblance of life by building bonds of collaboration and “friendship” with Tess e Joel. Il time skip takes us to the present (2033) where we find Frank terminally ill who asks his loved one to live with him on his last day of life. The two get married and are happy. But Bill does not accept the idea of being alone: before knowing Frank she wasn’t afraid, she no longer had anything worth living for. So instead of putting the lozenges loose only in her husband’s glass, she puts them in the wine bottle ending up as a tragic romantic death in bed.
At the end of the episode, Joel e Ellie they arrive at Lincoln and learn what happened thanks to a letter left by Bill per Joel. Travelers gather all their essentials, pick-up and head into the Wyoming Looking for Tommy. The conclusion of the events is not much different from the video game, while the most significant change is precisely the fact that Bill he does not die in the work from which the series is based.

Easter egg
After that Joel ed Ellie they find Bill e Frank dead, they take a shower and get new clothes. While seemingly inconsequential, these outfits are a significant reference to the original game in a hidden detail for the players The Last of Us. L’outfit Of Joel is the green plaid shirt that has become synonymous with his game character, same for the burgundy shirt with blue sleeves from Ellie.

Another easter egg of episode 3 is about the rules of Joel which forces a Ellie if you want to continue the journey with him. This dialogue is taken verbatim from the game, with the major twist of Joel who begins to care about the girl and wants to try to get to know her.
Il pick-up Of Bill it is the same model and color as the original game. The scene where Ellie find a cassette tape and Joel she says it’s very old “stuff” from before she was born, it’s an identical remake of the video game with the difference in song. The episode closes with the ballad of Linda Ronstadt: Long Long Time.
