The franchise of Tomb Raider originated as a video game series focused on the female adventurer Lara Croft, an archaeologist who has a series of daring adventures among ancient ruins and, of course, tombs. The video game series was originally adapted into live-action in the 2001 film, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider con Angelina Joliefollowed by the 2003 sequel Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life. The film wing of the franchise was then rebooted with Alicia Vikander in Tomb Raider of 2018, although the promised sequel to this film has not been made in the meantime. Now, it would seem that Amazon wants to produce a television series for its streaming platform, Prime Video!
Tom Rider’s Lara Croft will once again make her screen debut!
According to THR, the iconic character from Lara Croft will be back once again, but this time on the small screen. Amazon would be developing a new Prime Video series with Phoebe Waller-Bridge as lead writer. With Ryan Andolina e Amanda Greenblattthe Waller-Bridge will also be executive producer of the TV series. However, she won’t be the lead, so the production has yet to find her Lara.
Although the Waller-Bridge is best known for her work in Fleabag and in other comedies such as sitcoms Crashing of 2016, has already proven itself to be up to scratch when it comes to action movies. The first big glimmer of her aptitude for grittier material came during her time as executive producer and head writer on the hit spy thriller series Killing Eve, which debuted in 2018 and has been nominated for five Golden Globes and 14 Emmy Awards, winning one each. In the same year, Waller-Bridge played the droid L3-37 in the prequel film Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Having proven her prowess in action both on and off screen, the producer and actress has more or less permanently shifted her focus to more action-oriented work. One of her most notable projects in this genre was her latest film Daniel Craig are James Bond, There is no time to die of 2021, of which she is one of the co-writers. The actress will also have a major role in the upcoming one Indiana Jones e il Dial of Destinythe latest installment in the classic adventure series featuring Harrison Ford.
Since the role of Lara Croft has not yet been assigned to the new series of Tomb Raider, it is likely that many actresses will be clamoring for the opportunity to take on the lead role. It seems unlikely that Alicia Vikander you come back for this project (although she e Angelina Jolie they could always make cameos, if they’re willing to), so the door is wide open to new recruits.
There is a wide range that could fill the role, but some of those who have recently showcased their action skills and who could have a chance are the star of Uncharted Tati Gabrielle (who also recently appeared in the Netflix heist series Kaleidoscope) is at the star Aubrey Plazawhich also recently shed its comedic roots from series like Parks and Recreation of NBC.
Who do you think could play the protagonist instead?
