We are in Germany in 1944, Jojo’s father is at the front in Italy, while his mother, Rose, takes care of him after her sister’s death. The child spends his days in the company of Yorki, his only true friend, and attending a camp for young Nazis run by Captain Klenzendorf. Although he is considered weird by his peers, the boy feels like an advantaged Nazi because he has a very particular imaginary friend: a grotesque and caricatured version of Adolf Hitler.
Jojo hates Jews, despite having never seen one, he is adamant that it is okay to kill them.
His Nazi view of the world changes completely when he discovers that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in the attic…
