Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19, Krista Vernoff leaves
Krista Vernoff says goodbye to Grey’s Anatomy e Station 19. The executive producer and showrunner will leave the two series – now in their nineteenth and sixth seasons respectively – in May, once the television season concludes. “He’s been the privilege of a lifetime at the helm of Grey’s Anatomy for the past six years and Station 19 for the past four,” Vernoff said in a statement sent to Deadline, adding that “the passion of the fans and the impact these series have on hearts and minds is amazing. The concentration of talent in these two extraordinary casts and two brilliant writers rooms is beyond measure – and these crews work their magic week after week”.

Vernoff – who worked on the first seven seasons of Grey’s Anatomy first as head writer and later as executive producer – she returned to lead the medical series starting with season 14 in 2017, and then also overseeing the spin-off Station 19 starting in 2019. According to colleagues and the industry press, Krista Vernoff managed to bring back Grey’s Anatomy to the glories of the first seasons; the ratings rewarded his leadership – to this day Grey’s is still at the top of the ABC network’s most-watched shows and is in pole position to be renewed for a 20th season – and the decision to strengthen the link between Grey’s e Station 19 with continuous cross-overs between the two series.
Se Grey’s Anatomy will be renewed, in the role of showrunner we should find Meg Marinis, a veteran of the series who began working in production as a researcher up to the current role of executive producer. Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige instead should share the role of co-showrunner of Station 19. Meanwhile Krista Vernoff – armored by a multi-year agreement with ABC Signature – will devote herself to new projects through her production company Trip the Light Productions.

Is it goodbye or goodbye? Krista Vernoff has learned not to use the word “never again.” “Last time I left Grey’s Anatomy, I was away for seven seasons and the show was still on when Shonda Rhimes called me to come back and direct it” – he said – “it’s not a final goodbye because it would be too bittersweet. Rather take it as a ‘See you in seven seasons’”.
