Justin Roiland licenziato da Adult Swim
Adult Swim — the Warner Bros.-owned adult animated programming network Discovery — has announced that it has ceased all partnerships with Justin Roiland, co-creator of Rick e Morty – together with Dan Harmon – and also a voice actor for some characters from the series in the original version, including the eponymous protagonists. The news of Roiland’s dismissal was also formalized by the message published on the series’ social accounts. “Adult Swim has terminated its association with Justin Roiland, the message reads, which continues: “Rick and Morty will continue. The brilliant and dedicated work team is already preparing for the seventh season”.
The decision to distance herself from Roiland comes days after the author’s domestic violence allegations. Last January 12, it was learned – from a semi-sealed court case – that Justin Roiland was charged by the District Attorney’s office in Orange County, California, with the crime of “domestic assault with bodily harm” and of the crime of “false detention by threat, violence, fraud and/or deception”. The episode in question – the identity of the victim of which is unknown – allegedly took place in January 2020, according to a complaint dating back to May of that year. A trial date has not yet been set. In October 2020, Roiland pleaded not guilty but will be required to attend a hearing related to the case set for April 27.
“Just to be clear, not only is Justin innocent, but we expect the matter to be dropped once the DA’s office completes its methodical review of the evidence.”, declared a Deadline Roiland’s attorney, T. Edward Welbourn, adding: “we look forward to clearing Justin’s name and helping him move on as quickly as possible”. If found guilty, the 42-year-old Roiland could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.

In 2018 Rick e Morty was renewed by Adult Swim up to the tenth season with a maxi-order that – at the time – amounted to 70 episodes. The animated series will see only Dan Harmon at the helm, and he will certainly have to find new voice actors who will lend their voices to characters previously played by Roiland.
Justin Roiland is currently signed to 20th Television Animation, the production house for which he co-created Solar Opposites (as well as being in the voice cast) and for which he executive produces the series Koala Man. Both in the United States are broadcast on the Hulu streaming platform. Last year Roiland also wrote and dubbed an episode of The Boys Presents: Diabolical, the spin-off animated series of The Boys.
