Over the course of its two seasons, The White Lotus, an anthology series produced by HBO (and available in Italy on Sky and the streaming platform Now TV), also winner of an Emmy, followed a heterogeneous cast of bon vivant vacationers during their stay in the resort chain of the same name, where invariably someone was found dead. One of the faces that certainly captured the audience from home was that of the actress Jennifer Coolidgewho played the eccentric McQuiod asked who, together with her husband Greg (interpreted by Jon Gries), are the only two characters to appear in the first two seasons.
What if we had a spin-off on Tanya from The White Lotus?
During a recent interview with Variety, the Jennifer Coolidge talked about a possible prequel series for Tanya after his death.
The star would like to play the character again, although he is hesitant to ask the creator Mike White to have a spin-off series of his own, because he fears it could be interpreted as a lament for the death of Tanyawith which he did not entirely agree.
The White Lotus has been renewed by HBO for a third season, although very little is known about the next installment of the anthology series. After the first two seasons were set in Hawaii and Sicily, focusing respectively on “money” and “sex”, White stated that the third season is meant to be a satirical look at “death in Eastern religion and spirituality“. Although the creator of The White Lotus hasn’t revealed a specific setting for the season, it has been speculated that it will be Japan, a location it had already been considering for season two.
There’s no confirmed cast, though characters from season 2 are likely to return, such as Tanya which acted as a link between the first two seasons. Greg he’s a likely candidate to return yet again and face repercussions for plotting to murder his wife. Also Portiathe assistant of Tanya (played by Haley Lu Richardson), may return to investigate the death of his former boss. Considering his death, Tanya he probably won’t return, unless the third season is set before the second, which would allow the show to explore the character’s origin story, without having to embark on a spin-off.
This is the first time a cast member of The White Lotus talks about a potential show for his own character, and that would be a really good idea. When Tanya arrives at The White Lotus in season one, she clearly has trouble coping with the death of her mother, who abused her emotionally, and a prequel would allow White e Coolidge to explore that troubled relationship and understand how it shaped the complicated character Coolidge played for two seasons. Whether the character’s origin story is explored in the HBO show’s third season or a potential spinoff, it’s definitely something audiences might want to see.
