Peters’ award has attracted fresh controversy and sparked outrage Shiley Hughes, mother of Tony Hughes (one of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims). “There are many sick people in the world. And people who get roles playing killers keep the obsession aliveand this makes sick people thrive on fame”said the woman in an intervention to TMZ after the ceremony, criticizing the obsessive behavior fueled by Monster – The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Shiley Hughes, however, has also expressed disagreement with the award won by Peters and hers speech at the awards ceremony, stating that the actor should have at least pay tribute to the victims of the killer and to remember the families who had to face the mourning. “It is a pity that people can make money from our tragedy. The victims have never seen a penny. We experience these emotions every day”concludes the woman.
A very controversial series
The show, consisting of ten episodes, debuted in streaming on the well-known platform in September of 2022 and quickly started grinding record su record. Despite its extraordinary success, the series created by Ryan Murphy (former showrunner of American Horror Storyin which she collaborated with Evan Peters) has often been at the center of many controversies: first, the show has been accused of racism and disrespect for the LGBTQI community; secondly, that of the killer Jeffrey Dahmer was one of the most popular costumes of last Halloween (triggering an appeal on Twitter and even leading the online commerce site E-Bay to ban the costume); three, the series led to the birth of a macabre challenge on Tik Tok; last but not least, Dahmer has provoked the harsh reactions of the families of the victims, who believe that the production has made the series without thinking about the real victims.
