We continue to talk about The Whale and its protagonist Brendan Fraser, waiting for the release of the film in Italian theaters scheduled for February 23rd.
From the last edition of the Venice Film FestivalWhen The Whale was presented in competition as a world premiere, we are witnessing the newfound popularity of Brendan Fraser or, as her diehard fans have called her since the de trilogy The Mummythe Brenaissance. Fresh award winner like Best Actor at the Critics Choice Awards, Fraser and we all look forward to January 24th when the nominations of the Oscar Award 2023, to also be able to read his name in the shortlist of the five best performances of the year.
By now we know well that the story of The Whaleat the cinema in Italy from 23 February, tells of a man suffering from a serious eating disorder that led him to weigh over 270 kg. He lives as a recluse at home, holds online teaching courses and has cut off all ties with the outside world. When a drastic diagnosis arrives on his state of health, he tries in every way to reconnect with his daughter, long gone from his life. The film is directed by Darren Aronosfky and can count on the participation of Sadie Sink in the role of the girl.
Brendan Fraser: ‘We didn’t know if we were going back to work the next day’
The actor continues to be sought after by the media, precisely because the film and its performance in the role of an obese professor, do not cease to make headlines in the current awards season. In a recent interview with Sirius XM radio station, Brendan Fraser described his experience on set as follows:
Going to play this character, I felt in my heart that I might no longer be invited to do the actor’s job. It truly is a privilege to do what I do and when I saw such a relevant story, I knew I had to give it my all. And that I had to finish each day not wishing I’d wanted to do things differently. And it wasn’t particularly difficult because, as with many other films, The Whale was also made during the Covid period in which we were all experiencing some sort of existential threat. We didn’t know if we’d be back to work the next day. But I don’t need to say that.
But certainly this permeated the project, making us all take much better care of ourselves, towards each other. Making a film about a man who is short on life, against the backdrop of real circumstances against him, while wondering if we would ever go back to making a film like this, allowed us to feel the full weight of the story.
