Also this year a large participation in the Movieplayer Awards has created many surprises in the winners of our magazine, going to reward profoundly different but very varied products, a sign of a season truly full of good cinema. Among the winners Top Gun: Maverickwhich turned out to be the film of the year, while Stranger Things 4 and others have carved up the television industry.
The real winner of the year is probably Top Gun: Maverick, the film by Joseph Kosinski nominated for two Golden Globes and one of the titles that will certainly be present at the next Academy Awards 2023. In addition to the award for Best Film, where it surpassed a surprise second place, or Licorice Pizza, takes home the one for Best Action Film, Best Soundtrack thanks to Lady Gaga’s main theme created ad hoc for the feature film, and above all the Unforgettable Sequence of the Year, the opening scene of the film.
Another winner of the year was undoubtedly Steven Spielberg with his beloved The Fabelmans: for him the award for Best Director of the year and Best Screenplay. Also noteworthy is the head-to-head of Paul Dano, in the Best Supporting Actor category, who however in the end lost against Elvis’ Tom Hanks. And Baz Luhrmann’s film takes home three rich prizes in these Movieplayer Awards 2023: in addition to the award to Hanks, he wins Best Actor for Austin Butler and Dance scene of the year, or the one in which little Elvis dances in church .

Among the other awards in the world of cinema we find The eight mountains, Best Italian Film, the comedy Margini and two awards for Everything Everywhere All at Once, the Daniels film with Michelle Yeoh, which also went on to win the award for Best Actress, surpassing Spencer’s Kristen Stewart. Avatar: The Water Trail takes home two awards, one for Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film and one for Best Animal (the Tulkun whale), but Cameron’s film took second place in many categories, including that for Best Director.
In the television department, the award for Best TV Series of the year goes to Stranger Things 4, the new season created by the Duffer Brothers: the Netflix show also takes home the new award for Best Monster, swept away by Vecna.
Huge success also for two of the most popular Italian titles of recent years: Boris – Season 4 takes home the award for Best Comedy Series and Best Actor in a Comedy TV Series thanks to Francesco Pannofino; while Skam Italia 5 takes home Best Teen Series and Best Italian Series. Even the Italian Everything asks for salvation takes home two awards, Best Miniseries and Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series thanks to Andrea Pennacchi.
Awards also for Dahmer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Best Crime Series and Best Actor for Evan Peters, Wednesday, Best Actress in a Comedy TV Series and Unforgettable Sequence of the Year, and House of the Dragon, which wins Best Sci-fi/Fantasy series by doubling the votes received by The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
