Following Evan Peters’ win at the 2023 Golden Globes, the mother of one of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims condemned the actor’s acceptance speech.

The mother of one of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims has spoken out Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer StoryNetflix’s hit series after that Evan Peters won a Golden Globe earlier this week, saying the portrayal of killers in pop culture”keeps the obsession alive“.
The mother of Tony Hughes, one of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims, said: “There are too many mentally ill people in the world, and the fact that actors win awards playing killers keeps the obsession alive, makes these people believe that they can achieve notoriety.”
“It’s a shame that someone can take our tragedy and make money on it. Victims never see a penny. This is how we feel these days. Evan should have used his acceptance speech to name families still suffering from Dahmer’s crimes, or to demand that Hollywood stop telling stories that glorify serial killers“, concluded the woman.
The Dahmer: The Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story star did not mention the victims or their families during his speech, but he did thank many people connected with his personal life, including his own family and friends, the cast, the show’s crew and its creator Ryan Murphy. Finally, he added: “I sincerely hope that something good has come of all this“.
