Wild Republic, surviving adolescence on RaiPlay
The TV series Wild Republic, the new original of the Rai streaming platform produced by Beta Film, is available in streaming from Thursday 22 September on RaiPlay.
Sudden death disrupts the life of a group of young inmates which is facing an innovative recovery program. But what happened that first night at the campsite? Created by Markus Goller and Lennart Ruff – the latter winner of the student Oscar in 2014 for the best foreign film with the short “Nocebo” -, the TV series presents itself as a coming-of-age story that, starting from the themes of adolescence such as the search for identity as opposed to security of conformism, proposes a turn towards the genre of survival.
“Wild Republic – underlines Elena Capparelli, Director of RaiPlay and Digital – is an exciting and engaging series, which shines a light on the complexity of the human soul and for this reason we are happy to have it exclusively on RaiPlay. The protagonists are boys with difficult stories, young prisoners involved in a rehabilitation process. It is a story of survival and redemption, but also a story of solidarity, with elements of mystery, crime and action ”. A little ‘The Lord of the Flies, a little’ Lost, Wild Republic is the confirmation that the European series is able to package a high-concept project that has nothing to envy to those of its colleagues from overseas.

The plot and the characters. Set in the heart of the Alps, the eight-episode series (available in double audio – English and Italian – and subtitled) features a group of young people, each with their own story and nothing in common with each other. An eight-week experience immersed in nature. On the very first night of camping, the guide who accompanies them is found killed. Nobody knows what happened but everyone is faced with a dilemma: report what happened or run away? They choose to escape but remain united. They venture to the highest peaks of the Alps to take refuge in a cave, sheltered from the elements and from their pursuers. Begun in the summer of 2020, filming for the series has affected the German regions of North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria and South Tyrol – where the production worked for a total of 42 days – as well as Belluno.
