There world premiere in London, the long-awaited TV series The Sandman was a star-studded triumph.
The first two episodes premiered, with audiences cheering on the production and cast. Neil Gaimanauthor of the beloved graphic novel and creator of the project, answered questions from fans:
“The show develops around Preludes and Nocturnes and Doll’s House, the first chapters of the comics. From the first episodes the roller coaster ride begins, it’s a wild ride up to the tenth episode. It never stops, it’s glorious”.
Tom Sturridgewho plays Dream, one of the Seven Eternals, said:
“First of all, I’m a fan of comics, I care a lot about history. When you think of Dream, you think of rather abstract ideas, the prince of sleep, of dreams and nightmares, someone who has lived for millennia. If you create dreams you are aware of how people feel. What is a dream, if not the most lucid articulation of our real self? “.
The London actor then continued:
“Contrary to how people sometimes perceive him as a god capable of anything, Dream is not stable, since it is dealing with the collective unconscious of the universe. This incredible thing, that is, all the emotions in the world. In fact, to be able to managing the situation will have to break away, because the consequences are disastrous “.
The comic begins in 1916. The self-styled magician Roderick Burgess organizes a magical rite to attempt to imprison Death, one of the seven Eternals, a group of ancestral creatures. He fails, but involuntarily imprisons Death’s brother, Dream. Thus begins one imprisonment that lasts almost a century and sends the Dreamlands into chaos, kingdom ruled by the Eternal. Having freed himself, Dream needs the three objects that are the source of his powers that have been stolen during his absence: a bag of magic sand, his war helmet and an amulet with a ruby embedded in it.
Directed by Toby Haynes and produced by Worner Bros, the fantasy show highlights universal values such as life, death, love.
The Sandman is available from today on Netflix.
