Actor Danny Trejo will play Portuguese explorer Ferdinando Magellano in a new historical film titled 1521.
Danny Trejo will be the protagonist of a new film in which he will have the role of Fernando Magellanoproject currently titled 1521.
Filipino-American filmmaker Francis B. Lara Ho of Inspire Studios will be in charge of producing the feature.
1521, written by Mary Krell-Oishi, will tell the journey made by the Portuguese explorer Magellan who reached the archipelago, later known as the Philippines, on March 16, 1521.
Ferdinand, the role entrusted to Danny Trejo, led the Spanish expedition and was one of the first Europeans to travel to Asia.
Shooting for the film will begin later this month in Palawan.
The cast will also include Michael Copon as Datu Lapu-lapu, who dominated an island and was the leader of the warriors who thwarted Magellan’s colonization attempt. The Portuguese forces were defeated and he lost his life in the Battle of Mactan on April 27, 1521.
Complicating the situation was a forbidden love story between Princess Diwata, the role entrusted to Bea Alonzo, and a Spanish soldier who was also Magellan’s translator, Enrique, part played by Hector David Jr.
Among the performers there will also be Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan who will be Ahmani, Diwata’s sister.
