While filming is currently underway, American Born Chinese has announced its latest addition to the cast: Poppy Liu (appearance in iCarly, Better Call Saul and Hacks) will in fact cover the role of guest star in the brand new Disney + TV series.
The director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will work on the new project Destin Daniel Cretton. The show is an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name by Gene Luen Yang 2006, and will be played by Michelle Yeoh, Ben Wang, Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Daniel Wu And Jonathan Ke Quan.
Released in 2006, American Born Chinese is heavily inspired by Chinese mythology and tells three seemingly disconnected stories that come together to explore themes of identity, culture and family. 20th Century Television has acquired the rights to the graphic novel for the upcoming adaptation on Disney +.
The series follows Jin Wang (Ben Wang), a teenager juggling high school social life and immigrant family life. When Jin meets a new foreign student (Jim Liu) on the first day of school, their worlds collide as Jin is drawn into a battle between Chinese mythological gods.
