In recent times it has become customary for streaming television series hide QR codes where fans least expect it. Marvel’s Moon Knight, for example, hid QR codes in every episode and allowed viewers to read the comic completely for free. The latest season of The Umbrella Academy features a hidden QR code, but the surprise it contains is sadly not a free comic.
The new season of The Umbrella Academy takes place in a new timeline where Umbrella are not born and Sparrow Academy is in charge. Among the other changes present is the fact that Pogo, Sir Reginald Hargreeves’ companion talking chimpanzee, is no longer his counterpart but is instead a performer of the Mother’s of Agony motorcycle club. His main role appears to be as a tattoo artist for the group, as he is seen applying them to someone in his first scene and even getting a tattoo of Five later in the season, where the QR code comes into play. Unlike previous seasons, Umbrella Academy Season 3 finale features a post-credit scene that contains the QR code.
When scanned, the code takes users to UmbrellaAcademyNetflix.com, a website that features a “Pogo’s Tattoo Shop” banner and series of flash tattoos themed with the series. Set includes: a moon (a reference to Luther’s interstellar home and the celestial body that Viktor destroyed), a Commission briefcase, the Sparrow Academy logo, the Umbrella Academy logo, a sparrow holding an umbrella, a mask da domino (the signature look of Umbrella Academy as a child), a few tentacles (referring to Ben’s powers), a violin (referring to Viktor’s powers), a ghost (referring to Klaus’s powers), a bell (which refers to the Obsidian / Oblivion Hotels), some satanic images, the tattoo that Five gets on his chest, the map of the Oblivion Hotel and some others.
All three seasons of The Umbrella Academy are now streaming on Netflix.
