Ben Stiller seems to have decided to accept the role of Jack Torrance in a theatrical version Of Shiningarriving in London in 2023.
Rehearsals are expected to begin in the fall ahead of a January debut and, thereafter, there may be a staging of the show on Broadway as well.
Director Ivo van Hove is working on the Shining-inspired project with Simon Stephens (The Strange Case of the Dog Killed at Midnight) who will write the adaptation of the Stephen King novel.
The play has been in development since 2017, but is hampered by the closure of the theaters in 2020 and 2021. Ben Stiller, who is closing the deals, is expected to play the role brought to the big screen by Jack Nicholson.
The show is supposed to stay closer to the story told in the novel than the film directed by Stanley Kubrick. For now, no other cast member names have been announced.
